The Only Defense Pt.2
National Preparedness Month
The past week has been extraordinary for the USA. Several small level bombings have caused a law enforcement and public safety crisis while threatening to interupt the social norms of society.
While people carp and complain about the government needing to protect us, the fact of the matter is that you are your best defense. Reporting suspicious behavior, leaving areas when you see things that "don't look right" all play a part.
Guy, Will and Jim discuss the issue and impact on how we live and how we should live.
Will also spoke briefly about the fact that 6 people died on September 20, 2016 while the USA mainstream media stoked racial division over the shooting of Keith Scott in Charlotte, NC they totally glossed over the shooting deaths of 5 Caucasian men around the nation by police. As rioting ensued over the Keith Scott's death, before anyone even knew the facts.
These situations often justified are exploited in order to create political or social division and power. Such manipulation and exploitation of good people is a threat to our unity and our basic freedoms and survival. We as a society, no matter what our emotions are, must maintain a civil and thoughtful conversation and adherence to the basic rule of law, civil order and facts. Mob rule never yields a positive result.
Will’s concern stemming from these highly charged incidents, justifiable or not, is that there are heightened tensions created between civilian and law enforcement populations which will set the stage for more incidents that do actually involve “innocent” civilians dying while legally carrying. The media in general has tried, as usual, to spin into police / civilian shootings as a "gun problem". Such politicization intended to fuel calls for “gun control” mutes a real threat to law abiding gun owners. The fact is that law abiding citizens who carry either open or concealed MUST LEARN how to behave in the event of an encounter with law enforcement officers while in possession of a legally owned and carried firearm. We as legal, trained and respectful firearms owners must be aware, controlled, behaved and educated in the proper way to behave in such situations. The possibility for disaster is overwhelming. Do yourself a favor and be prepared ahead of time in order to insure the best possible outcome. Law Enforcement agencies should be constantly educating and reminding officers that law abiding citizens (in most states) are legally allowed to be in possession of a firearm and often either open or concealed carry.
If people of all races and creeds are to continue to exercise their right to carry and survive, we must aggressively work now to educate both sides of the equation in how to reasonably interact without negative outcomes. The unique rights of citizens of the USA to keep and bear arms will not survive unless we all work vigorously to negotiate thoughtful approaches to this serious problem. This is a problem for all Americans not a single class, race or creed.
