A Brief Biography
GL Skye is an American author, born in Indiana in the early 1960's he grew up in Kentucky. His Scottish-Irish ancestry is perhaps the reason for his love of the mountains. He earned a B.S. degree in Geology. He joined the Army National Guard at 18 and by 24 he became active duty U.S. Army where he served all over the world. He deployed in support of Desert Shield and Desert Storm, KFOR (Kosovo), Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom as well as other Peacekeeping and Humanitarian operations. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer after 25 years in 2005.
Throughout his career GL applied his skills in geology in field of geospatial intelligence. GEOINT as it is known in the intel industry is a powerful tool especially in the planning of millitary and civilian actions. It is equally useful in the civilian world as it is applied in the emergency services environment. The data sets that are now being developed allow for exacting information in realtime within seconds for highly detailed information about fire hydrant locations, water main sizes, disaster resources, and many other useful subsets. The ability to rapidly access, assess and act upon layers of information that would previously be not only unavailable but not known that may save lives and property is mind boggling.
GL Skye is a member of the GIS Certification Istitute (GISP), PnPAuthors, Cold Coffee Club and Life Member of the VFW.
GL Skye is also a writer.He started his own company; Great Living Sources to train people in pertinent knowledge and survival skills from a holistic approach. Focusing on the three aspects of readiness and humanity, physical, mental, and spiritual. His goal with his writing is to create books that draw the readers into a world were bad things happen, but good eventually wins out.
He wants to open a Homeless Veteran's Shelter with the proceeds from his books. The homeless shelter plans are underway. In additon to his writing he enjoys wood working, hiking, hunting, fishing and camping.
