Methods for Avoiding
Infection and Illnesses
This show was focused on the problem of ticks, lyme disease and many other tick related illnesses. The focus was on abatement, detection, removal, repellents, and responding to post tick set health risks.
The idea is not to scare you from going outside, simply to inform you so that you are aware of the options and possibilities to reduce the risk of negative outcomes from tick borne illnesses.
One of the most important points that Dick from SCS Ltd. points out is:
Not all permethrin is blended for the purpose of bonding to fabric. Most permethrin is agricultural which is for pest control on vegetation. Its design purpose is to stick to plants thus protecting the plants. Veterinary products are designed to adhere to animal skins/hair or premises and are not for fabric application. Some permethrin is formulated for treatment of medical conditions such as head lice and scabies. The formulations are not interchangeable mostly because of solvents utilized. Always refer to manufacturers label and follow instructions.
When a nymph is discovered it must be removed immediately.
The overall conclusion was that tweezers should never be used for the removal of ticks.
The Pro-Tick Remedy Tool succeeded in removal of 72% of the nymph ticks it was tested on. Now . . . 72% is not 100% but then again it's not the 4% success delivered by the tweezers. The Pro-Tick Remedy tick remover performed better than any other tool tested at removal of nymph ticks.
The circular dark spot above the mouth part on a tick is called the shield. The shield and mouth parts are the key to identifying the type of tick that you have encountered. As the tick becomes engorged the shield does not change.
Utilize the Tick Identification Card that came with your Pro Tick Remedy Tool.
Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent has been proven in tests to be the only repellent that is nearly 99% effective at repelling ticks.
